Why I did what I did:

I read "A Princess of Mars", and not having seen any of Frazetta's amazing interpreations of John Carter's Mars, I attempted to design a Martian 'horse'; a Thoat. Ten feet tall, ten legs, tusks - the sort of creature that could only happen in the golden age of science fiction.
